“Fort Wayne hopes quality utilities will help attract development around Harrison Square.

The Fort Wayne Board of Public Works on Wednesday approved a $750,000 project to install new water, sewer and storm sewer lines to and around the $120 million downtown development.

Greg Leatherman, executive director of development, said while the project is necessary to provide utilities to the downtown stadium, hotel and condominiums, it will also make the surrounding area easier to develop.”

“Leatherman said the project will make the land south of Brackenridge and the land west of Ewing more appealing for development by providing more sewer, storm sewer and water capacity. Harrison Square was touted as a catalyst project to encourage more investment in the downtown area. Future phases of Harrison Square, with additional condominiums and retail, would also use the new utilities.

The city’s sewer and stormwater utilities will pay for the project, expected to go out for bids this summer. The work was part of the city’s incentive package to lure developers to partner in Harrison Square.”
