“By an 8-1 vote Tuesday night, City Council approved spending $1.2 million over six years to help fund a major renovation project of the History Center, which occupies the old City Hall. The money will defray the cost of repairing and stabilizing the sandstone façade of the building and upgrading its heating, cooling and ventilation system.

Councilwoman Liz Brown, R-at-large, explained her vote against the funding by saying it sets a bad precedent for the city to help any nonprofit. Councilman Mitch Harper, R-4th District, said state law specifically allows cities and counties to help fund historical societies.”
