Cards And Gifts Closes
Downtown Cards and Gifts, located on Calhoun Street across from Summit Square, closed during the Art Crawl event.
Pretty much the entire store was for sale at a discount, including the displays themselves, and poor continuing sales was cited as the reason for closing.
The silver lining may be that the whole building could be acquired by a single entity for redevelopment.

Redevelopment at the expense of the rest of us who pay the property taxes. You can’t make a silk purse out of a cow’s ear! If private enterprise can’t make it, how does anyone expect a public-financed redevelopment to work without major changes in the economic conditions that created this inability to survive? (This is the second store of this type to fail in our downtown in the last 10 years). The silver lining you are talking about is probably another boondoggle -a- coming - I can hardly wait!
Ummm… I didn’t say anything about public funds. It IS possible to redevelop a property without them.
In present day Fort Wayne? Wow! Please list the last time this has happened.
Keep an eye out for our next post, John :-)
