Go East, Young Men
Lower Manhattan, New York City
The brothers Spaulding (all three this time) will continue the quest of visiting every American city blessed with a Major League Baseball team and every ballpark in which the game is played at its highest level starting on Thursday.
Last season, we visited Baltimore, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and New York City.
This season, we will be meeting up with a friend in New York City to catch a game at Yankee Stadium before it is demolished.
We will then go to Boston and catch a game at the oldest MLB park in the country, Fenway Park.
After Bean Town, I (Scott) will visit Philadelphia with aforementioned friend to explore that historic city and to catch a Phillies game.
Here’s the basic itinerary:
Thursday, July 31:
Yankees vs Los Angeles Angels at 7:05PM
Friday, August 1:
Explore NYC
Saturday, August 2:
Red Sox vs Oakland Athletics at 7:05PM
Sunday, August 3:
Explore Boston
(Brothers back to Fort, Scott to Philly by way of an overnight stay in Brooklyn)
Monday, August 4:
Explore Philly
Tuesday, August 5:
Phillies vs Florida Marlins at 7:05PM
As with last year, we will try to stay abreast of happenings back in the Fort.
Two things to keep your ears open for are an announcement on the condo and retail developments at The Harrison and the RFPs that are due on August 5th for the “Restaurant Row” proposal on Superior.
The condo/retail announcement will likely be coming this week given that WOWO started off the media rounds this morning on the topic.
I haven’t decided yet whether I will be taking a laptop or not. If I don’t, posts will be delayed and pictures will have to come after the trip. I’ll most likely upload cameraphone pictures to my Flickr stream, however, if you wish to pursue any voyeuristic tendencies you may have.
If by chance or alignment of the stars anyone reading this is in a city mentioned above when we are, then feel free to send an e-mail to whatsgoingdowntown [at] gmail [dot] com and I will get the message on my phone.

Have fun, guys. A couple of summers ago we went to Boston and saw TWO Red Sox games. Getting those tickets was not so easy! The first game we were about 2 rows from the very top in the outfield, although we had a good view. The second game we were closer. Anyway, Boston is a great city and you’ll have a blast. And DON’T let on in either NYC or Boston that you are seeing/have seen the other team play - you might get beat up. :-)
