What’s Your TinCaps Mascot Idea?
At the unveiling of the Fort Wayne TinCaps name and logo yesterday, it was stated by the team that a mascot has not yet been cooked up.

Here’s your chance to get some ideas out there before they are suggested for you by a firm in Atlanta!
What would make for a good mascot for the Fort Wayne TinCaps?
How about Mad General Johnny The Kekionga Crabapple Sandbagger? It’s inclusive, at least.
Send in your suggestions in the comments and let’s see what people can come up with!
My idea is that they switch to some other name!
Change for it’s own sake is not progress.
I doubt what the readers here think will get a lot of attention from HC. All of the research I did almost two years ago said that the secret to a successful single A franchise is to provide family entertainment that holds the attention of 4 to 12 year olds. I assume the mascot will be crafted to that goal.
I think a guy with a tin pan on his head wearing nothing but a wood barrel would be very fitting – he can always take the tin pan off to get “alms” to enable him to pay his property taxes – between 1/2 innings, of course.
I think a natural fit would be some kooky, Johnny Appleseed character.
Hmm…not sure that I with it on this one…. Looks to me were now officially the Fort Wayne Pot Heads.

How bout an old, bearded, Johnny Appleseed with a tin cap on his head and a tin cup in his hand. And he just sits the whole game and asks kids and their parents for spare change as they walk by.
Let’s not do a “Wayne the Wizard” part 2 and do an Johnny Appleseed character. A “Johnny Rotten” would not be all that fan freindly and would scare kids more than Wayne ever did. Maybe we can get the apple guy from Fruit-of-the-Loom!
Put a tin pan on Wayne the Wizard’s head and call it a day.
He can be called “Old Man Chapman”
Good call – historically human mascots haven’t done so well. Maybe we could go with a freaky apple tree a la Lord of the Rings or Wizard of Oz! That wouldn’t freak the kids out at all – eh?
i think the mascot should resemble something like Ohio State’s mascot.. the body would be “normal” and the head would look exactly like the TinCaps photo up above. seriously, i think it would be a cool mascot!
Nancy, that’s actually a good suggestion. He’d look just like Brutus! (OSU mascot)
I think a big apple with bob marley dreadlocks smoking a huge joint and sometimes a water bong. since the people who named the team didn’t take it seriosly why should they take the mascot thing seriosly.
I would love to have like a Johnny Appleseed mascot, with a pan on the head. It’s how the name was created!
