“The first Reindeer Run 5K will be Saturday in downtown Fort Wayne beginning at 10:30 a.m. in front of Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory.
As the name implies, there will be reindeer (and Santa) present. However, they will not run. Well, at least the live ones won’t be running. There figures to be plenty of costumed reindeer in attendance.
“For several years I’ve wanted to put on a holiday-themed race downtown,” Harper said. “I’ve talked with (Conservatory manager) Mitch Sheppard many times about different ideas. I think just the thought of supporting the conservatory was a great idea.””

The race entry of $15 will include a free pass for two people to view the conservatory.
The other element to the race is the costumes. Harper wanted to be clear that costumes are not mandatory for runners, but there will be several awards for best costume: best overall costume, best costumed couple, best costumed parent and child, and best costumed child.”
