Instant Copy was a big deal for a long time. I knew they went out of business around July. However, I was surprised that I did not see anything in the news about it.
From my earliest memories as a little kid perhaps into my twenties, there was a toy store in one side of that double storefront. That was before everything including toys went to megastores and tv-show derived, poorly-made plastic trash that does nothing to stimulate discovery or creativity or learning. They had good stuff there.
I still have my Big Bang carbide cannon, WWII vintage, that came from there. Over the years, the igniter has been lost; I need to get a replacement. That thing was really loud, yet reasonably safe. Safer than fireworks, anyway. You might get burned if you were stupid, but the burn wasn’t life-threatening or maiming and you became less stupid for the experience.
At one time, maybe late seventies, there was a doll hospital in the building. I’m not sure if it was associated with the toy store, or came later. A friend who collected and restored antique dolls bought a lot of their inventory when they closed.
