“After a lengthy and secretive search, a $20 million collection related to the nation’s 16th president – up for grabs after the Lincoln Museum closed in the city in late June – will go to a consortium of the Indiana State Museum and Allen County Public Library, the Lincoln Financial Foundation announced today.”

“The extensive collection of the 230,000-some rare documents and artifacts were housed in the now-defunct local museum, 200 E. Berry St., before it closed June 30 after 80 years in Fort Wayne, where Lincoln Financial was based until 1998. Included in the collection – which was built up over about a century by the Philadelphia-based Lincoln Financial Foundation – are photographs from the 19th century, a massive gathering of books about Lincoln that includes an unique Braille collection, several busts and hundreds of Lincoln signed manuscripts and documents.”

“The Allen County Public Library will receive and house the manuscripts, books, and periodicals, playing off its expertise in preserving, cataloging, and digitizing rare books, manuscripts and records, the state museum said.”
