Post-Summit Bike Ride Details
From the City:
“We have just a couple of last-minute updates before tomorrow’s summit, starting at 9 a.m. at the downtown branch of the Allen County Public Library.
We’ve added a third bike ride, aimed at experienced road riders after the event. Here’s a description of all three, so feel free to bring your bike:
Urban Explorers – Take One: A half-hour ride starting at 12:30 from the library will be a leisurely tour through downtown streets and some of the Rivergreenway. Beginning riders or those taking the first ride of the season are encouraged to take this short tour of the city. Any style of bike will work.
Urban Explorers – Take Two: The second ride will start at 1 p.m. from the library and will include an extended tour of Fort Wayne covering a variety of terrains. Intermediate to experienced riders are encouraged to take this longer tour of the city but beginners with a hardy backside are welcome to ride along! Mountain or hybrid bikes are preferred but all bikes are welcome.
Road Riders: This will be a 2-3 hour ride into the country of about 40 miles with an average speed of 17-18mph. Plans are to leave the library at 12:30pm, head out past Saint Francis and then out Leesburg Road into the country. This will be a ride designed for road bikes on paved roads.
Please bring food and drink to last you the entire ride as no stops are planned. Also be sure your bike is in good working order and that you have tools, a tube and a pump to repair any flats.
We are also bringing in additional bike racks to the library’s east plaza for extra bike parking.
In addition to the library’s parking and on-street parking, the garage at Harrison Square will be available with free parking. Drivers should use the entrance on Harrison Street. To exit the garage, insert the ticket into the exit gate. There is no charge for the new garage Saturday morning. To get to the library, use the east side of Harrison, then west on the north side Jefferson, then north on Webster.
If you can’t make the summit, we are recording the presentations to air on City TV, Comcast channel 58 or channel 28 on Verizon FIOS.
We look forward to seeing you tomorrow. The summit in the meeting rooms on the first floor starts at 9; the expo will be from 11 to 1 in the Great Hall.”
