TinCaps Surpass Wizards’ Inaugural Season Attendance

From TinCaps release:

TinCaps Break Season Attendance Record
Through just 61 games TinCaps welcome 322,995th fan, surpass previous franchise record (318,506) with nine home games still remaining

“The Fort Wayne TinCaps welcomed 7,025 fans to Parkview Field on Sunday, August 16th – the 7th sellout in the last 12 games – bringing the season attendance total to 322,995. With nine home games left to play, the TinCaps have already surpassed the previous season attendance record of 318,506 set in 1993, the first year of Minor League Baseball in Fort Wayne.

“This is certainly a milestone for the franchise,” said TinCaps Team President, Mike Nutter. “It is a testament to the hard working men and women that I have the privilege to work with. They come to work each day dedicated to providing each and every person that walks into Parkview a first class experience. We can feel the energy in the ballpark and being at Parkview Field is as much fun for us as it is for the fans. This has been a tremendous first year and we still have more baseball left to play.”

The TinCaps current homestand continues on Monday, August 17 and Tuesday, August 18 as well as four games next weekend beginning Thursday, August 20 and running through Sunday, August 23.

“We still have four fireworks shows, three Thirsty Thursdays, and a Family Feast Night left on the schedule,” said Nutter. “On top of that the Midwest League Playoffs begin at home on September 10th. We have plenty of baseball excitement and entertainment still in store for fans this season.””

  1. 7025 fans is not a sellout…the stadium seats like 8200

  2. So what IS the official capacity of Parkview Field? I thought it was 8000 or so, but when I started hearing about all these “sellouts” here recently I wondered what they consider to be the official number.

  3. Parkview Field
The ballpark at Harrison Square is valued at $30 million dollars with fixed seating of 6,000 and a capacity of 8,000 to 9,000 with the inclusion of non-fixed seats such as berm seating (estimated at 1,000) and bar and table top seating, as well as other non-fixed seating arrangements.

  4. Actually it was a sellout yesterday. I called the team earlier this year and asked them what is considered a sellout. I was told that a sellout is after all of the regular seats in the stadium along with the 800 lawn seats have been sold. This number is just around 6,900 or so. From there, they can sell 1,000-1,500 or so standing room only tickets. It is classified as a sell-out when all of the seats are sold out as they were yesterday. Sellout=around 7,000 fans. Total Parkview Field capacity is around 8,400 fans. If they sell all of the seats in the stadium it is a sellout. One can’t expect people to flock to standing room only tickets although fans have been doing that as well.

  5. Pretty good summary in the last post. The totals that have been in the 7000-8000+ range have been games with a lot of SRO tickets sold. Two Thursdays ago comes to mind. Packed.

Depending on how the playoffs go, we could see 400,000 fans.

  6. Good explanations. I have been confused all year about what exactly is a sellout.

  7. A “Sell Out” means that all seats have been sold – not that someone attended for each seat! The suites are counted at 20 seats each, even if no one is there for a game in that suite – also, every season tichet is counted, even iuf the person holding that ticket did not attend that game.
The “Yield” for this season is running at 75% – so that means, through yesterday’s game .75 times “Announced Attendance” of 322,995 = “turnstile attendance” of 226,778 (the total number of actual fans that have been there at a game this season.

  8. John, Where did you get the “Yield” figure? I’m not necessarily disputing it, I’m just wondering where you got it.

  9. Quite a success…especially considering the national and local economy.

I finally went to my first game on Saturday. Wow! So nice I can’t even get into all of the details here.

I think there will be a dropoff next year, but something tells me this is still going to be a very popular downtown attraction for a long time. I do not have a lot of hope for the condominiums due to their pricing, but am impressed and more than satisfied with the ballpark and the fact that the new hotel is set in 2010. Much needed for the convention center. Will there be a sportsbar there as I’ve heard? That will be perfect!

  10. There will be a Champions sports bar inside the new Marriott.

  11. Any word on when the 4 story, family-friendly Applebees is going to break ground ?

  12. Friday and Saturday games are sold out…some standing room only tickets are available

  13. Yay for downtown revitalization! I really hope they bring in some good retail to give people even more reason to head downtown and walk around. Can’t wait for the hotel and condos to be built. They’re gonna be top notch if/when they are built. I can’t wait to move downtown..hopefully there will be options for me when that time comes.
